Atelier Courtade & bent workshop
I prefer imperfection. In studying North Africa I learned of the belief that nothing man made should be perfect, as only god can create perfection. I'm not a religious person but the idea struck me as beautiful. Indeed, I've always found imperfect items and people far more interesting, they have more personality. Besides, anyone can make a 'perfect' cast ring, pendant, or whatever.

Ever since I was a child I have been interested in the world and the diverse cultures in it. When I was young, adults mostly taught me stereotypes but I always searched out a more complete picture and questioned what I was taught. This continues today in my work. I like to challenge people's perceptions of North Africa, the Middle East, and Islam. When I talk with people that stop by my booth or talk to me at the studio I enjoy discussing how a religious or political idea thousands of years ago effects secular art, architecture, math, and science today.

I create my pieces using fabrication techniques, most of which have not changed in hundreds of years. I enjoy the fabrication process and the feeling of intimacy it gives me towards a piece.

This portfolio represents an overview of my work and includes both art jewelry and fine jewelry.
